Quotes: "The difference between empowering and traditional pedagogy has to do with the positive or negative feelings students can develop for the learning process." i found this quote to be interesting. i think this because it is true. by giving students the opportunity to be in power in the classroom you are allowing them to learn in their own way and at their own pace. this will show most likely amazing results in their test scores and how they view learning as a whole. it will give them the opportunity to show what they can do as students. “Students in empowering classes should be expected to develop skills and knowledge as well as high expectations for themselves. their education. and their futures” this quote is true as well. if you give the students power to chose the way they learn they can set realistic goals for themselves. this will help them become more independent for when their future comes. it will show that even though they set a high goal...

research conference/ social justice event

For my social justice event i went to the research conference at the biltmore hotel in providence. the conference was for all teacher administrators and well anyone in the education field. when i first got to the conference i noticed their were a ton of people in the room. i wasn't really expecting their to be so many people. after the first meeting was over where everyone had first met i went to the first workshop. this workshop was about student centers learning and reflection tool. in this workshop their were about 6-8 people in their. the instructor talked about how their were 4 types of ways to do so. one of them being competency based learning and proficiency based learning. another one is personalized learning. the third is student owned learning. and the last being anytime anywhere learning. after talking for a little while she went in to ask us to think about how we can relate to this. then asked us to talk to a partner about what we each can relate to the most. after doin...

Quotes: "One fact about tracking is unequivocal: tracking leads to substantial differences in the day-to-day learning experiences students have at school." in a classroom their should be a scheduled prepared so that students are prepared to learn. so that they can be ready to ask questions and be ready for their day. i'm not saying that everyday needs to be the same but their should be some type of routine. when tracking a student the result are not always going to be the same with every student one student might do really while the others are not doing well that dose not mean that those students who do well are the smartest it means that they are fast thinkers. while the other students just need a different why of showing they know their knowledge. and can show that they knew the what was being taught to them. "In low-ability classes, for example, teachers seem to be less encouraging and more punitive, placing more emphasis on discipline and 'behavior and les...

Mapping of the authors link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DGHce2yqilYPxGlV_0pTtGmqB4rCS9lvISr9JY-T7ic/edit        I believe that my service learning project is making a difference in the kids lives and how they view learning. When talking about Rodriguez i think about how In my service learning project i’m not in a ELL classroom but their is one student who knows both Spanish and English that i know of. I wasn’t aware of this until one day his mom came into the classroom to pick him up early. She had another person with her so that they could translate to the teacher and so that she could be understood as well. It was shocking because when helping him their didn't seem to be any diversity in his life. But when his mother came in he immediately switched to Spanish when speaking to her. i feel as though this is import to talk about because it shows the obstacle that this student had to go through in life. it must take a great amount of brain power for him to ...

Quotes: "They stress the importance of compassion for those in need, and they encourage children and young adults to find ways to help"       I like this quote because it needs to be said more. people truly need to help and give back to people who are in need. and their are so many ways to do. By going to my service learning project I feel as though i have helped children learn better and have helped  them see learning in a new way. I feel as though i have made an impact on everyone of them. "Service learning makes students active participants in service projects that aim to respond to the needs of the community while furthering the academic goals of the students"          this quote is true because when you are their helping with students you get to the place they want to be in life. this all starts at when they first go to kindergarten because it helps shape the way they will view school for the rest of their schooling c...

Quotes: " A disability may be a better display board for the weakness of a cultural system than it is an account of real persons"         I found this quote this be interesting because it shows that the disability is not the problem its the people around that have the problem with it. this is true because people see a person with a disability and they judge them immediately. they don't think about the struggle and the courage it takes for them to actual go out and be a part of something. when their is a young child with a disability in school the other students whom are in the school may judge them at times because they don't know that its not okay. when they are out and see other adults acting uncomfortable or not acknowledging them it shows that its okay for children to act like this when its not. this is a big problem with the world today that needs to be fixed.  “Now we know that people with disabilities can learn and have a ...
